Want to learn how to install your garmin gps mount unit onto
your motorcycle. Read on here.
Having your motorcycle installed with a garmin gps system is
a good thing indeed. It can help you to find way in unfamiliar
areas especially if you are new to the place. Besides, it can
also help you to find better way so that you can avoid the
traffic jams. Unlike the gps units that are used in private
car, the ones that are meant for motorcycle would be little
different. Windshield suction mounts or dashboard mounts do not
work for motorcycle and instead, the handle bar mount is what
you need. This gps handlebar mounts could be easily found at
most local electronic stores or even from online stores such as
Amazon.
By the way, you need to get the mount that specifically
designed for the GPS unit model that you are going to install.
Not all mounts fit for all models due to the difference size
and design of the gps units.
Guide for installing your garmin gps motorcycle mount:
Firstly, unscrew the nuts from the end of the u-bolt. You
can notice the u-bot easily, it is the one that use to tie the
mount onto the bike handlebar.
Now, decide where you want the gps unit to be mounted. On
the left side or the right side of the bar and it is near the
end of the bar or on the upper area. Once you have decided,
position the u-bolt around the handlebar in that location.
Place the gps mount on top of the u-bolt with the gps cradle
(where you will place your gps unit) facing to the
rider. The ends of the u-bolt should be threaded into the holes
on the base of the handlebar mount.
Once the u-bolt is done, screw the nuts onto the end of the
u-bolt by hand and then tighten it with a wrench. This will
make sure that the mount is fixes securely to the handlebar. So
make sure that you do this step attentively or else the mount
will fall down after some time. Place the supplied black rubber
caps over the ends of the u-bolt (this is to make it looks
nicer without exposing the nuts).
Finally, snap your gps unit into the cradle located on the
top of the handlebar mount. You can adjust the GPS cradle by
turning the black plastic screw located on the side of the
mount. Move the GPS to the desired position and fasten it in
place by tightening the screw.
Some precautions that you might want to take:
For the safety of your gps unit, you can attach a
lanyard to it so that even if it ever falls out from the
cradle, you still won't lose it. A GPS unit does not come
cheap.
Do not install the unit at the position that will
obstruct your view or interfere with the motorcycle gauges.
Make sure that you are comfortable with the position and
change it if you aren't.
To prevent your gps unit from being stolen, take it off
should you need to walk away from your motorcycle for a
lengthy time.
